Noir

Noir is a new luxury clothing retail environment that creates intimacy and mystery through a process of hiding and revealing architectural surfaces and spaces. The condition is most evident in the storefront display system that visually divides the main sales area from the window display. A set of window opening provide limited views into the main sales area beyond. As the wall systems extends toward the back of the store, the color changes from black to grey to white, thus the space deepest in the store is the brightest. The white at the back of the store amplifies the sense of depth in the store and suggest that there is a destination beyond the point-of-sale desk that divides the front of the store, which is more exposed yet dark, from the back, which is more secluded yet lighter.
